String Fellows (Jon Banks and Jack Davies) are a duo
dedicated to the delights of the intimate world of plucked
and struck strings. Their concerts combine familiar
instruments like the classical guitar and mandolin with the
dulcimer, lute, medieval gittern and Gothic harp. A String
Fellows programme spans a full six centuries of music
history, showcasing some of the jewels of the exquisite
medieval and renaissance repertory alongside more modern
classical and folk styles from around the world.
Unfamiliar instruments are introduced informally from the
stage, as are a number of intriguing musical curiosities
and hidden meanings encountered along the way. The result
is an original and entertaining blend of the old and the
new, familiar and exotic into a feast of music played on
beautiful and fascinating instruments.
