Jon studied music at Oxford University, where he went on to complete a doctorate on the renaissance motet and classical rhetoric. In addition to performing he lectures part-time, teaching Middle Eastern Music at Cambridge University and Anglia Ruskin University, as well as Acoustics at City University and London Metropolitan University. His 2006 book The Instrumental Consort Repertory of the Fifteenth Century was supported by a 2-year Leverhulme Research Fellowship.
