Jon Banks

Soloist on Early and Middle Eastern instruments

Jon Banks is an international specialist in early and Middle Eastern string instruments, performing worldwide on the medieval harp, the santur and the qanun. He has toured, recorded and broadcast extensively in Europe and in Africa, Asia and the Americas with groups including The Burning Bush, The Jocelyn Pook Ensemble, The Globe Theatre and Sirinu. Other current groups include the duo String Fellows, Dragonsfire, the Middle Eastern ensemble Mawwal and the choral group The Templar Consort. Jon records as a soloist for film and TV and also teaches and lectures on Middle Eastern Music, Acoustics and Music and Science at various universities, including Cambridge, London City, Anglia Ruskin and London Metropolitan.
